John C. Erickson

Vice Chairman , Chief Corporate Banking Officer, UnionBanCal Corporation


John C. Erickson has retired from his posts of Vice Chairman and Chief Corporate Banking Officer of UnionBanCal Corporation and its primary subsidiary, Union Bank N.A. He remains in an advisory role until June 2014. John oversaw commercial banking, global treasury management, wealth management, capital markets, and real estate industries. He assumed this position in November 2009.

Mr. Erickson served on Union Bank’s Executive Committee, which sets overall policy and strategy. He also was a member of MUFG’s U.S. Management Committee, which sets overall policy and strategy for all shareholder interests in the United States. Previously, John was Vice Chairman and Chief Risk Officer. He was appointed to this position in April 2008 overseeing credit, compliance, enterprise risk management, corporate real estate and the Basel II activities. Prior to his two Vice Chairman assignments, he served as Senior Executive Vice President and Deputy Chief Risk Officer from September, 2007 to April 2008. Previously, he was responsible for the commercial banking and wealth management.

Mr. Erickson joined Union Bank in 1983 as a Management Trainee. He later worked in an energy lending unit, then man- aged syndications and was promoted to Senior Vice President of corporate capital markets. He was named an Executive Vice President to oversee communications, media and entertainment activities in 2001. Mr. Erickson received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California in economics in 1983 and his M.B.A. in finance, also from the University of Southern California, in 1991.
