Robert G. Magnuson, CEO, Magnuson & Company
Bob Magnuson has more than three decades of experience in the media business, successfully leading, managing and advising companies and individuals. He has been an award-winning journalist, senior news executive, publisher, CEO and consultant. He currently is president of Magnuson & Company, a strategic communications and media consulting firm.
Since 2002, Bob has advised a wide range of clients, including corporations, family offices, private foundations and universities. In 2007 and 2008, he was Chief Operating Officer of Nicholas Holdings, LLC, the family office of Dr. Henry T. Nicholas, III, co-founder of Broadcom Corporation, and he continues as an advisor to the firm.
From 2000 to 2002, Bob was President and CEO of InfoWorld Media Group, a leading information technology media company owned by International Data Group. He also served on the boards of Computer World, Network World and CXO Media.
Before that, Bob spent 20 years at the Los Angeles Times, where held numerous senior editorial positions, including Business Editor and State Editor. He helped lead a newsroom staff that won two Pulitzer Prizes-for coverage of the Los Angeles riots in 1992 and the Northridge Earthquake in 1994. Later, Bob served as President of The Times' Orange County edition and Senior Vice President of The Times with responsibility for many of its operations. He also was an officer of Times Mirror Co., owner of the Los Angeles Times, and was CEO of Times Community News, which operates community newspapers in Southern California. Earlier in his career, Bob was Hong Kong bureau chief of the Asian Wall Street Journal and associate economics editor at Business Week magazine in New York.
A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Bob has a master's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and in journalism from Columbia University. He has taught at UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism and currently serves on the boards of KOCE-TV, the Orange County Great Park Conservancy and the Ramirez Solar House. He is married to the writer Shawn Hubler. They live in Southern California with their three children.
